The Charleston Forum to Host Online Conversation with Charleston and North Charleston Police Officers

Local police chiefs will discuss the results of the Forum’s community survey

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – Local nonprofit, The Charleston Forum, is continuing the advancement of conversations about race in the community and will host a discussion with two local police chiefs.

On August 27, The Charleston Forum will chat with Charleston Police Chief, Luther Reynolds, and North Charleston Police Chief, Reginald L. Burgess, about racial relations and criminal justice in the Lowcountry and across the state.

“It is imperative that we work together to discuss these issues and find solutions that will create real change for South Carolinians,” said Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds. “Along with The Charleston Forum, we hope that South Carolina will be a leader at the forefront of these issues, and it takes leaders to step up and make that change happen.”

The Charleston Forum has adjusted their approach to addressing major lowcountry racial issues because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the Forum’s annual event, which was held virtually this year, they have hosted several conversations online and plans to continue those efforts. The event on August 27 will be one of four conversations the Forum will host in the fall of 2020. Each conversation will focus on one of the Forum’s pillars – criminal justice, education, economics and the future of the past.

“The new normal won’t be what we’ve all grown accustomed to. We need to put our political differences aside and work together to fix our faults,” said Clyburn during the Forum’s April online conversation.

This month’s online conversation with Reynolds and Burgess will take place Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. You can register here. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_IAL7ykFWRzydOsM_2vqpzg
